RUFOUS-THIGHED HAWK Accipiter erythronemius
To European birders he may look suspiciously like a Northern Sparrowhawk Accipiter nisus, while North American birders may mistake him for a Sharp-shinned Hawk Accipiter striatus. In fact he is the South American of the same group or "superspecies". A bird hunter, he is superbly adapted for a quick aerial pursuit and kill, his short. round wings and long tail giving him the ability to rapidly change direction as he speeds through dense vegetation after his unfortunate quarry.
