YELLOW-WINGED BLACKBIRD Agelaius thilius
Abundant in the Southern Cone of South America, this distinctive blackbird is extremely rare in Paraguay, which represents the extreme northern limit of its range. Further south they form noisy flocks, in fact so conspicuous are they, it has been rumoured that the country Chile takes its name from the raucous "chee-lay" call of this species - supposedly one of the first sounds heard by European settlers as they explored what is now the world´s skinniest country!
