BLACKISH-BLUE SEEDEATER Amaurospiza moesta
NEAR THREATENED ATLANTIC FOREST
Bamboo nomads as they are often known are a group of unrelated species that wander the Atlantic Forest searching for seeding bamboo upon which they feed almost exclusively. As a result the fragmentation of the forest has hit them hard, and few harder than this species which has declined alarmingly and is now almost impossible to see in neighbouring Brazil. Males are wholly black, females are a rich chestnut colour.
