SCARLET-HEADED BLACKBIRD Amblyramphus holosericeus
Instantly recognisable by his red head visible a mile off as he sits perched on a prominent stem above a reedbed, this species is surprisngly common and widespread in wetlands throughout the country. Even juveniles are attractive in their own way, essentially watered-down versions of adults with reddish-orange, rather than vivid scarlet, head and thighs.
