COLLARED AMPHISBAENID Amphisbaena camura
This is one of the larger amphisbaenids in Paraguay, growing to up to 45cm in length. It is a fairly widespread species that over most of its range can be recognised by a combination of its size and the presence (usually) of a pale white collar. The most likely confusion species is Amphisbaena bolivica, which is similar but occasionally has the collar extended into a completely pale head, and is confined to the extreme dry Chaco. It is unclear if the Paraguayan range of the two species overlaps.
