CINNAMON TEAL Anas cyanoptera
A handsome duck (well the male at least!) that may be familiar to North American birders. Here in Paraguay it is a rare winter visitor to the Central Chaco and known from very few records. These photographs were taken further south in Argentina where the species is common and are included here to help facilitate identification of this rarely encountered species. The scientific name cyanoptera means "blue wings" referring to the eyecatching blue speculum (wing patch) that is dramatically conspicuous when the bird takes flight.
