HELMETED MANAKIN Antilophia galeata CERRADO
This extraordinary manakin is endemic to the cerrado region where he is locally distributed in bushy areas along water courses. Males are handsome black and red birds with a weird pointy crest that gives them their common name. Like all manakins they are suckers for playback, and a surefire way to know if the bird is in the area is to blast out his call and wait for the rapid response.
