WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER Calidris fuscicollis
The White-rumped Sandpiper is the commonest small sandpiper in Paraguay and is extremely similar to the much rarer Baird´s Sandpiper. As you might expect the easiest way to tell them apart is that this species has a white rump and Baird´s does not! White-rumped breeds in the Arctic and winters on the coast of southern South America, with large numbers passing through Paraguay on the southbound migration, some of them finding it so much to their liking that they decide to pass the entire winter here.
