BAND-WINGED NIGHTJAR Caprimulgus longirostris
Up in the Chaco lives a nightjar that is rarely-recorded in Paraguay. In fact the individual photographed in (FPAVE2499PH-FPAVE2503PH) represented the first positive record of this bird in Paraguay for over 10 years! Of course his habitat is rarely visited and a superficial similarity to the common Little Nightjar means that he is easy to overlook, so he is undoubtedly be more numerous than records suggest. If you are lucky enough to come across an individual that you think might be this species, note the band on the wing, the greyish plumage and the broad, buffy collar across the lower throat.
