RUFOUS-CHESTED DOTTEREL Charadrius modestus
As well as the expertise required to identify it, there is a large dose of luck involved in finding a new species for a country avifauna. Imagine then the luck required to find two new species for a country avifauna on the same day! That is precisely what happened at Estero Patiņo on 17 June 2004 when this species and Franklinīs Gull were both firsts for Paraguay! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! This species had been previously reported but no details accompanied the record and it was considered hypotehtical until this individual turned up!
