BLUE-NAPED CHLOROPHONIA Chlorophonia cyanea
Breathtakingly beautiful, the bright colouration of the Blue-naped Chlorophonia provides surprising camouflage in the tree canopy. Recent DNA evidence suggests that they are actually finches, though their stubby bills and wide gapes are adapted for plucking and swallowing small fruits. Their diet was in part the reason that the Chlorophonias and their allies were formerly placed with the tanagers Thraupidae.
