BLUE GROUND DOVE Claravis pretiosa
A handsome inhabitant of the forest understorey, the Blue Ground Dove is a medium-sized dove of secretive habits. This is a sexually dimorphic species and only the males are actually bluish, the females being a uniform brownish colour that affords them protection when sitting on the nest. Listen out for the deep, single-note HOO call of this bird.
