BROAD-HEADED SPINY RAT  Clyomys laticeps
A medium-sized fossorial spiny rat of grassland areas, particularly in cerrado. A colonial species it is relatively common, if localised, in suitable habitats in eastern Paraguay and central Brazil. The species is armed with well-developed claws, short ears and a short tail, all adaptations for a burrowing existence.
