ASH-COLOURED CUCKOO Coccycua cinereus
The smallest of the cuckoos, the ash-coloured is a secretive and rarely observed bird. There are relatively few records of the species in Paraguay and it is probably overlooked. It is a plain, greyish bird, lacking obvious field marks except for a distinctive moaning call and a piercing red eye. The species is considered resident in Paraguay, but dates of observations suggest it may in fact migrate through the country.
