WHITE-RUMPED TANAGER Cypsnagra hirundinacea
Though apparently ideal habitat is fairly widespread in Paraguay, the White-rumped Tanager occurs regularly at only one single location in the country - Laguna Blanca, making it a species of national conservation concern. Here they rove around in small family groups, led by a dominant pair - the parents of the other group members. The dominant pair combine to produce a remarkable duet in the early morning, standing with head raised and wings and tails vibrated rapidly. The other family members remain in close attendance, but none of them dares join in the performance!
