BLACK-BANDED WOODCREEPER Dendrocolaptes picumnus
An uncommon and local species in Paraguay, the Black-banded Woodcreeper is confined mainly to the northern Orient and eastern Chaco. In the rest of its range it is replaced by the similar Planalto Woodcreeper, which is more of an Atlantic Forest bird. Note the reddish upperparts of this species, the barely streaked back and pale bill, but if you really want to give yourself a headache refer to Planalto Woodcreeper for the confusion involved with that species!
