SOUTHERN SNAIL-EATING SNAKE Dipsas cisticeps
An uncommon sight in Paraguay, the bizarre blunt-headed, big-eyed appearance of the Dipsas snail-eating snakes gives them a distinctive look. There are two species in Paraguay, this one being more westerly distributed in the Oriental region and associated with humid chaco and cerrado environments. The two can be distinguished by the shape and extent of the dorsal blotches and the predominant colour of the ventral side, white in this species, brownish in the other (D. bucephala).
