Dynamine tithia tithia (Hübner [1823])
ENG:
Blind Sailor, Blind Drop
ESP:
Gota ciega
JIZ: One of the "blue sailors". Forewings triangular with relatively straight costa, and rounded apex and tornus. Hindwing rounded. Poses with wings folded in sunny areas, sometimes rubbing the wings together. Attracted to dung and enriched muddy surfaces, sometimes in numbers. Can be approachable. Sexually dimorphic. FLI: Fluttery but purposeful within 1m of the ground.
UPP: M (Fig 1&2) Forewing with basal half deep metallic blue and outer half black enclosing a diagonal medial row of three large white blotches and a parallel pair of small white spots towards the apex. Hindwing mostly metallic blue with thin black margin and a pair of curved black submarginal lines, the upper becoming more diffuse towards the anal margin. F No information.
UND: M (Fig 1-3) Forewing with orange-yellow costal base and short bluish submarginal and perpendicular medial streaks. Rest of forewing blackish with bluish and orange hue postmedially and ghost pattern of white spots - though large white blotch closest to the costa is elongated and pair of small white apical spots are smudgy. Hindwing mostly white with broad, vertical orange postmedial band bordered dark brown and with a somewhat wavy outer edge. Outline of a thin orange crescent runs parallel to the outer margin which is marked by more or less prominent yellow-orange blotches.
F No information.
BOD: M Upperside of head and body blackish-brown with strong metallic blue tinge, especially on thorax and abdomen. Antennae black with minute white bands and orange-tipped clubs. Underside of body and legs white. Eyes orange-brown. Proboscis orange-brown.
F No information.
MMT: A small Biblid. No information for Paraguay. Canals (2003) gives a  CL of 16mm.
SSP: The underwing pattern of this species is more reminiscent of the "white sailors" than other "blue sailors" in that it lacks "sideways spectacles" and "eyespots". Ventrally the medial line across the hindwing  means that it is most likely to be confused with Dynamine athemon, but that species lacks any blue which is immediately visible when the butterfly takes flight. Dorsally it shows much more black on the apices of the forewing and the row of three large white spots totally surrounded by black on the medial forewing is unique in the group.

ABU: Frequent in suitable habitat.
HAB: Associated with humid forest edge, clearings and gardens in humid areas.
HOS: Plants in the family Euphorbiaceae including the flowers of Dalechampia. (Canals 2003).
