TAYRA Eira barbara
Essentially a giant weasel, the tayra is an adaptable omnivore found in a variety of habitats across Paraguay. They are identified by their mostly black body colour and variably pale head, occasionally wholly buffy-yellow like the individual in the images, but almost as often with the pale colouration restricted to the throat. Though a brief glimpse may suggest a cat (the species is frequently mistaken for a Jaguarundi), the hopping, weasel-like gait gives his identity away!
