YELLOW ANACONDA Eunectes notaeus
Few snakes have so much legend attached to them as the Anaconda, though stories of specimens reaching 20m (60 feet) in length wildly exaggerated. In fact the maximum length recorded is more in the region of 7m (20 feet) whilst these days the majority of "big" anacondas encountered measure between 3-4m (9-12 feet). Like other members of its family this is a constrictor, and though it is capable of delivering a nasty wound if it bites, the vast majority of individuals are non-aggressive and prefer to flee. This species is distributed mainly in western Paraguay.
