SPOT-FLANKED GALLINULE Gallinula melanops
A secretive little bird, the Spot-flanked Gallinule usually keeps to dense waterside vegetation. Essentially Moorhen-like in behaviour, they are most often seen swimming with nodding head and flicking tail. Though widespread they are nowhere common and likely undertake local seasonal movements in response to changes in water-levels. They can be immediately recognised by the spots on the flanks which give them their common name.
