GOMPHIDAE - CLUBTAIL DRAGONFLIES
Members of this family are usually associated with streams in forested areas. They are medium to large in size with some species reaching 70mm in length. Members of this family can be recognised by their relatively small and well-separated eyes. The common name comes from the swollen tips of the abdomen - the "clubtail". Unlike most dragonflies Clubtail Dragonflies emerge from their larval stage at night when they may be attracted to artifical light.
