HEPTAPTERIDAE - SEVEN-FINNED CATFISH
The Heptapterids are a group of catfish with a wide range through the Neotropics but without external defining characteristcis. In general they appear scaleless and have three barbels. The caudal fin is deeply forked and the adipose is long and conspicuous. The family name Heptapteridae means "seven fins".
