SANBORNīS TREE-FROG Dendropsophus sanborni
A tiny little tree-frog with a bug-eyed, duck-billed appearance. Like other small tree-frogs in the genus Dendropsophus this species was formerly included in the massive global genus Hyla. A revision of the taxonomy of the genus split it into several smaller, more manageable groups. This species can be identified by the fact that the tibiotarsal articulation reaches in front of the tympanum to the posterior part of the eye and the slightly translucent eyelids. It is otherwise extremely similar to Dwarf Tree-frog. One character that is often useful is eye colour, usually appearing dark in this species and yellowish in D.nanus.
