RUFOUS-FACED CRAKE Laterallus xenopterus
Laterallus crakes are well-known for their secrecy and for betraying their presence only by their reedy trilling calls, but of all the Paraguayan Laterallus, this species qualifies as the "hardest" of all to get on your life list. Its an inhabitant of dense vegetation in wet cerrado and globally it is known only from a few disjunct sites. It is however a distinctive bird if seen well, note particularly its bluish bill - other Laterallus in Paraguay have brightly-coloured bills.
