CHACO FROG Leptodactylus chaquensis
The numerous species of Leptodactylus frogs are what could be termed "typical frogs", sharing essentially the same characteristics as you might expect in a stereotypical "frog". This is one of the commonest frogs in the Chaco and unlike many Leptodactylus it is often found far from water. In the breeding season males of these frogs develop more muscular forearms (almost as if they have been to the gym!), an adaptation for firmly gripping the female during mating.
