CORALLINE FROG Leptodactylus laticeps CHACO
A fantastically-coloured frog, his red blotches actually act as a warning of his unpalatability - aposematic colouration. A large species, he spends the day underground in vizcachera or rodent burrows and emerges at night to hunt smaller frogs. This species is endemic to the dry Chaco.

1 (FPANF657RE) call recorded Fortín Toledo, Departamento Boquerón (Paul Smith October 2013).
In this cut you can also here the very similar call of Leptodactylus bufonius at the beginning. L. Laticeps is responsible for the deeper, less rapid notes.
