WHITE-TIPPED DOVE Leptotila verreauxi
The White-tipped Dove, or Yerutí to the Guaraní is one of the most familiar large doves in Paraguay. Able to withstand the unforgiving aridity of a Chaco summer as easily as the oppressive humidity of the Atlantic forest it is truly a remarkable species and its success is perhaps no surprise. White-tipped Doves forage mostly on the ground, but if disturbed on a forest path will fly quickly up to a nearby branch and parade backwards and forwards whilst wagging the tail and watching the observer. Once it has got the measure of you it will fly away deeper into the forest.
