HUDSONIAN GODWIT Limosa haemasticta
The largest of the Paraguayan waders and arguably the most graceful, with long legs and long, thin upturned bill. The Godwit wades when feeding, sometimes up to his thighs, and uses the bill to probe the substrate for food. Godwits are regular passage migrants to Paraguay, but do not occur in large numbers, passing through slowly but steadily during the spring migration. They appear quite drab in their winter dress, but in flight their eyecatching pied wing pattern makes them unmistakeable.
