GOLDEN LIOPHIS Erythrolamprus semiaureus
This handsome golden-coloured Liophis is extremely similar to the Common Water Liophis and can sometimes only be distinguished by examination of scale patterns. Broadly if the specimen is found in the Chaco it refers to this species, whereas the Common Water Liophis is from eastern Paraguay. Note also that this species sometimes (though not always!) retains a few spots from the juvenile colouration into adulthood (Pier Cacciali in litt.)
