WHITE-BEARDED MANAKIN Manacus manacus
Armed with a wing of weirdly-shaped feathers, this distinctive little manakin is able to produce a surprisingly loud crackling noise when lekking - just the ticket for attracting amorous females! The male is a handsome black-and-white bird, far more eyecatching than the dull greenish female. Look out for him in the dense undergrowth of humid Atlantic forest in the north-east of the country.
