OLIVE-CROWNED CRESCENTCHEST Melanopareia maximiliani
What a shame that this dandy little Chaco dweller isn´t more of a show off. Despite his extraordinarily colourful plumage, the Olive-crowned Crescentchest is a skulking inhabitant of grassy areas where he is difficult to observe. Paraguayan populations apparently sing differently to most of the Argentinian population and do not respond to playback of the different song. Mark Pearman has suggested that they may in fact represent two different species.
