PARAGUAYAN RED-BELLY TOAD Melanophryniscus paraguayensis
Red-belly toads, of which there are several species in Paraguay, have an interesting irruptive life-cycle. They can become momentarily common in one area during breeding, before disappearing almost completely for the rest of the year. This is a newly described species considered endemic to Paraguay where it has a distribution in central Eastern Paraguay (Central, Cordillera, Paraguarí and San Pedro).
