BLACK JACOBIN Melanotrochilus fuscus ATLANTIC FOREST
There is no confusing this rarely-recorded hummingbird on account of his jet black plumage set off by sudden flashes of his ultra.white tail. Its a large hummer and though considered endemic to the Atlantic Forest it is more often associated with open areas at the edge of Atlantic forest and even gardens. Though there are scattered records from across the south of the country it seems that the only place that the species is recorded with any regularity is around Hernandarias near Ciudad del Este. Note the chestnut moustache of juveniles.
