COYPU Myocastor coypus
Somewhere between a beaver and a rat, the docile Coypu is a widespread species. However, because of its tasty flesh and attractive fur the species has been widely persecuted and has declined alarmingly. It breeds well in captivity and has been exported widely as part of the fur trade. Escapes from this have led to the species becoming established in feral populations in countries far from its South American homeland, including the UK!
