STRIPE-BACKED ANTBIRD Myrmorchilus strigilatus
If you are up in the Chaco and you hear something wolf-whistling at you from dense vegetation, do not be alarmed, or flattered! Its not a randy builder that lies in wait but a Stripe-backed Antbird. This secretive denizen of thorn forest is far more often heard than seen. Invariably they are encountered in pairs, but it is the male, and his instinctive desire to respond to good imitations of his call, who is most often encountered.
