COMPARATIVE GALLERY: SUBFAMILY NYMPHALINAE - BRUSHFOOT BUTTERFLIES
Nymphalid butterflies have the forelegs much reduced so that they appear to have only four legs. They are worldwide in distribution and the group includes some of the most familiar and evocatively-named species such as Painted Ladies, Peacocks and Admirals. Most Nymphalinae butterflies pose with wings open, though some perch with wings closed.
