DARK HOCICUDO Oxymycterus delator
Hocicudos are identifiable on account of their long snouts - in fact the word Hocicudo comes from the local Spanish name meaning "long snout". They are fairly large rodents of wet habitats, semi-subterranean in existence, hence the enormous, broad digging claws. This species can be separated from the other species recorded in Paraguay on account of its dark blackish rather than reddish pelage.
