HARRIS HAWK Parabuteo unicinctus
Though likely familiar to some North American birders, they will notice certain differences between the Paraguayan Harris Hawks and those that they see at home. The Paraguayan birds never hunt in the social manner that their northern counterparts do, and they are far less terrestrial in behaviour. Slight plumage differences have led to the suggestion that the two might best be split, but DNA evidence appears to suggest that a split may be premature.
