SPOTTED RAIL Pardirallus maculatus
As with all members of the family this is a secretive and rarely seen inhabitant of dense reedbeds in wetlands. All Pardirallus rails are laterally-compressed, an adaptation allowing them to weave their way in and out of the reed stems without betraying their presence. Adults are instantly recognisable, even on a brief view, on account of their abundantly-spotted plumage.
