BLACKISH RAIL Pardirallus nigricans
Usually associated with more forested areas than the very similar Plumbeous Rail, it nonetheless shares the same secretive habits, being found in dense waterside vegetation. You are far more likely to hear them call, a loud trumpeting FRWEEEEP FRWEEEEP, preceeded by weird pig-like notes, that is most often uttered at dawn and dusk. Blackish Rail can be distinguished from Plumbeous Rail by the lack of coloured spots at the base of the long greenish bill and the white throat.
