BLACK-BACKED GROSBEAK Pheucticus aureoventris
Beautifully ornate, the black and gold Black-backed Grosbeak is a surprisingly colourful inhabitant of the harsh northern Dry Chaco. Pleasingly common in some areas, this summer visitor affords only frustratingly fleeting glimpses as he perches prominently on tree-tops. He doesn´t hang around for long, giving you just enough time to note his unmistakeable field marks before flitting off into the distance.
