MATTO GROSSO RACER Philodryas mattogrossensis
Racers, as their name suggests, are fast-moving, ground-dwelling snakes. They are opportunistic feeders, being able to pursue prey at great speed over short distance and subdue them with their toxic saliva. Though not considered dangerous to humans, the bite of this snake causes painful local swelling, and as with all animals, it is best to avoid getting bitten whenever possible! Note the unusual bicoloured body of this handsome species.
