COMMON MINER SNAKE Phimophis guerini
Despite the name this fossorial snake is anything but common, and there are relatively few Paraguayan reports. This may be because the species spends most of its time underground, but even so it is likely to be somewhat locally distributed in areas with suitable soils. This is the only member of the genus found east of the Paraguay River, the Chaco is inhabited by a similar, but paler species the Chaco Miner Snake Phimophis vittatus.
