GOLDEN-GREEN WOODPECKER Piculus chrysochloros
A handsome woodpecker that is relatively uncommon though widespread. Usually found alone or in loose pairs, it is a welcome splash of colour when birding in the Chaco. Unmistakeable within its habitat, though somewhat similar to the Yellow-browed Woodpecker - which prefers humid areas and does not occur in the Chaco.
