BLACK-CAPPED WARBLING-FINCH Poospiza melanoleuca CHACO
Roving bands of Black-capped Warbling-Finches act like the security force of the Chaco bird community. Whenever there is a disturbance, be it a raptor soaring overhead or an owl calling in the daytime, the Finches are the first ones on the scene, protesting loudly and seeing if any sort of mobbing is necessary. Thier boldness brings other birds out into the open, obviously hiding behind the fearless Warbling-Finches somewhat, but feeling a lot more confident when they are around. Once they decide that there is no threat, the Warbling-Finches disappear and all the other birds go into retreat.
