AZURE GALLINULE Porphyrio flavirostris
This gorgeous gallinule shuns the spotlight, preferring to go about his business in the cradle of dense reedbeds. Closely related to the American Purple Gallinule, his colours are less showy and exhibit a subtle beauty more inkeeping with his character. Your best chance of seeing them is just prior to sunset when they may perform short display flights, chasing each other on the wing just above the level of the reeds before touching down again.
