YELLOW-RUMPED MARSHBIRD Pseudoleistes guirahuro
The eyecatching Marshbird is a numerous inhabitant of open, marshy fields. It looks superficially like an Old World Starling (Sturnidae) and in fact may be the ecological equivalent! Indeed it even forages like a Starling, using a technique called "gaping" - basically walking along on the ground, inserting the long, sharp bill into the substrate and then opening it, clamping shut on anything that then fills the void!
