BLUE-AND-WHITE SWALLOW Pygochelidon cyanoleuca
Though it is indeed blue and white, it is not the only blue and white swallow that occurs in Paraguay so a little care is required to identifiy this species, especially when seen from below. It is uncommon over most of the country and appears to be migrant, though it is present year-round in the extreme south and breeds on buildings in the city of Encarnación. Numbers swell in the south during the migration period when large flocks gather on power lines along the banks of the Rio Paraná. The black vent of this species visible in (FPAVE3140PH) is diagnostic.
