LARGE-HEADED FLATBILL Ramphotrigon megacephala
A bull-headed bamboo flycatcher with a haunting whistled call - once heard, never forgotten. It prefers the large "tacuará" bamboo that grows along the banks of streams and rivers in the Atlantic Forest. This species is difficult to observe, and his lack of obvious field marks means that a combination of his distinctive habitat and memorable vocalisations all help to put a name to the shadowy lurking in the dim light of the undergrowth.
